Adventures in Italy - Florence

What a great city Florence is. It has all the world class sights as Rome, but much more intimate and slightly less of all the negatives: pollutants, crowds, and traffic. As a pedestrian, remember the law of physics - once in motion, stay in motion. Cross when everyone else crosses and don't stop suddenly. Drivers are calculating your speed vs their speed to avoid a collision with you. There are wonderful outdoor markets as well as indoor food stores (Enotecas) throughout Florence. The largest is the Mercato Centrale - an indoor market with dozens of different vendors and is as colorful as a grade school painting.

Michelangelo's David - This is a replica; the original David used to be in this spot in the piazza. It got moved indoors to the museum when it got vandalized.

Mercato Centrale - Indoor Food Market. Don't touch the produce! - simply point to how much you want and when you plan to eat it. The seller will select for you.

Mom and Pop enoteca (food store). These quaint little food stores are all over the city.

Street artist's chalk rendition of Bernini's David. Florence is the art capital of Italy. Aspiring artists flock here to live and study their passion...drawing on the sidewalk for change helps them hone their craft and hopefully pick up a few euros.

Replica of famous Guilded Bronze Doors. The original doors are inside the museum. If you can't make it to Florence, you can see similar replicas at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco.

Holding on to our last sunset in Florence.
