Adventures Beyond Prague - Cesky Krumlov

CESKY KRUMLOV

Online reviews eluded that this town is overrun by tourists. And for good reason. There are no "must see" sights here but there are plenty of "wow-check-that-out" views. Colorful Cesky Krumlov has everything a small town needs to attract visitors - cobblestone streets, a river, rolling verdant hills, and a castle complex and gardens you can walk around for free. There is a fee to tour inside the castle and climb the tower, but you can get just as great views wandering the grounds. Good eateries and variety of local shopping to tempt and overwhelm your senses - and your wallet.

This castle is painted to look 3-D, but the masonry, columns and statues are actually 2 dimensional. The columns at the top of the tower are real however - you can climb the tower and walk along the outside.

Looking into town from the castle grounds

This is a sundial on the wall of a building. Since it was overcast when this photo was taken, you couldn't tell the time.

During the warm months, you can kayak or raft a few times around the town, or continue floating down river to the Abbey a few hours away. The boating outfitters will arrange your ride back into town.

Cesky Krumlov is a very intimate town. Lanes are narrow, homes close together.

Nightfall.
